Overnight trains

Overnight trains are a convenient solution when travelling longer distances. You can relax in the comfort of your flat-bed sleeping accommodation, whilst the train whisks you effortlessly to your destination. Arriving first thing in the morning, overnight services allow you to make the most of your break.
  • When travelling overnight in France, take a comfortable, well-equipped Lunéa service.
  • If you are travelling between France and Spain or Spain and Italy/Switzerland, an Elipsos Trenhotel service is your best option.
  • CityNightLine trains link major cities in Austria, Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark and Czech Republic.
  • Travelling between Spain and Portugal? Why not take the convenient Lusitania overnight service?

Many of these trains have a wide range of accommodation options, not just standard and first class seats. At the cheaper end of the spectrum are reclining seats, similar to premium class seats on an airline. There are also shared couchettes, cabins with either 4 or 6 bunk-style beds, allowing you to lie down comfortably for a good night’s sleep. At the top of the range, some of the hotel-style trains have sleeper cabins for one, two or three people, some even have their own en-suite WC and shower.

Some of the hotel-style overnight trains also have restaurant cars on board for breakfast and dinner.
